A Day in the Life at UBC Point Grey

February 18, 2025

7:00am

Mornings in Wesbrook Village are something special.

I wake up in my bright, spacious two-bedroom home at Granite Terrace, to the sound of birds chirping outside the window. I grab my robe from my ensuite bathroom, and walk into the living room where the floor-to-ceiling windows let in the first light of the day. I pour myself a steaming cup of coffee, walk outside to the balcony on this brisk but sunny morning, and take in the lush greenery of Pacific Spirit Park just a stone’s throw away. On the calm, pedestrian-friendly streets below, I see my neighbours running their first errands of the day. Living here feels like a perfect balance: surrounded by nature, yet steps away from everything I need.

Waking up here each day makes for peaceful mornings

7:30am

After getting ready, I lace up my runners and step out for a morning run within Pacific Spirit Park’s trails. The crisp forest air and well-maintained paths make for the perfect start to the day. On my way back, I swing by Doughgirls Bakeshop for a warm housemade croissant and a latte — they know my order by heart, one of the perks of living in a welcoming community like Wesbrook. This charming local spot is a favourite among residents, and it’s easy to see why.

9:00am

Since my roommate is at work, I’m working from home in our gorgeous living room with a bright floor-to-ceiling window that provides a lush green view, almost like I’m still in the forest. The peaceful atmosphere and natural light have me off to a productive start. But when I need a change of scenery, Blenz Coffee is just around the corner. For a mid-day sweat sesh or stretch, the Wesbrook Community Centre’s fitness centre or VNYSA Yoga Studio provide the perfect opportunity — and I don’t even have to get in my car, so there’s no excuses!

3:00pm

I head home and work for a while. As the clock nears 5 o’clock and I begin wrapping things up, I realize I haven’t thought about dinner. My fully equipped modern kitchen at home makes cooking a breeze. I drop by the bustling Save-On-Foods right within my building where I grab some ingredients for a home-cooked meal. In the summertime, I love visiting the twice-weekly UBC Farm markets at the south end of Wesbrook to pick up fresh produce that’s grown almost in my backyard.

This local grocery store in the same building makes it super easy to get ingredients for dinner

8:00pm

After dinner, I head over to my friend’s place at Mews, just down Wesbrook Mall. As I get to the door, his sweet dog, Bruno, happily greets me at the door, tail wagging wildly. My friend’s unit is modern and warm with a contemporary design, making it the perfect retreat to relax with a cup of tea and chat about our week. During the day, expansive windows surrounding the living and dining area let in tons of natural light. Although it’s just the two of us this evening (+ Bruno), my friend often hosts our regular group of four for game nights — the open-concept living and dining space is perfect for hosting.

I love spending time at my friend’s place at Mews, just down the street. It’s so bright and perfect for socializing.

10:00pm

It’s getting late, and I’m getting tired. Time to go home to bed. I say goodnight to my friend, give Bruno a few more head pats, and walk the less-than-5-minutes back home. I feel extremely safe walking around at any time of day in Wesbrook. After getting inside and ready for bed, I step outside on my balcony for one last breath of fresh air. The Village is quiet, with only the distant hum of a passing bus, and a cyclist heading home. I reflect on my day — living in Wesbrook Village means being part of a thriving, close-knit community while having access to the best of UBC Point Grey’s world-class amenities.

11:00pm

As I climb into bed, I think about tomorrow. It’s projected to be a rainy Saturday, and I’m excited to explore the arts and culture scene at UBC Point Grey. The world-renowned Museum of Anthropology was recently upgraded and always has interesting exhibits to discover. I might catch a show at the Chan Centre for Performing Arts in the evening. The sun will be back again on Sunday — a perfect day for a peaceful stroll through the Nitobe Memorial Garden, one of the most serene spots at UBC Point Grey. An ideal way to calm my nervous system before a busy week ahead!

I drift off thinking about which one of the vibrant local eateries I’ll stop by tomorrow for lunch. There are so many great options, from authentic Neapolitan pizzerias to sports bars, sandwich shops, and ramen joints. I’m very grateful for where I live – every day is a reminder of why Wesbrook Village is such a sought-after place. Home sweet home!

These two beautiful units are currently available for rent at Granite Terrace and Mews located in the heart of the Wesbrook Place neighbourhood.
